The Birthday Boy played Golf

Since President Obama celebrated his 52nd birthday last Sunday, it was a very light work week for him. He managed to attend 2 daily briefings, meet with his senior advisers once, Secretary of Treasury Jack Lew, and the President of Yemen.


On the serious side, he received 2 sports teams at the White House: members of the former Negro League, and the UConn Huskies Women's Basketball Team.

In addition, he flew in 11 friends from Hawaii and Chicago to play golf last Saturday. And then, the whole group went to Camp David for Mr. Obama's Birthday Party.

Today, he is off to California to tape a guest appearance on the Tonight Show.

  • President Obama left the White House at 10:10 AM and flew to Phoenix Arizona where he will tour Erickson Construction and speak. Afterward, he will fly to Los Angeles CA. Once there, he will tape an appearance on Jay Leno's "Tonight Show".

Monday, August 5, 2013
  • President Obama received a daily briefing at 9:45 AM. Next, he met with his senior advisers (10:45 AM). The next scheduled appointment was a meeting at 6 PM where he met with baseball players of the former Negro League.

  • President Obama returned to the White House.

Saturday, August 3, 2013
  • President Obama played 18 holes of golf with 11 of his friends from Hawaii and Chicago. He then went to Camp David and hosted a birthday party for himself.

  • President Obama had lunch with VP Biden at 12:45 PM. Then, at 2:15 PM, he met with bipartisan members of Congress. At 3:45 PM, he held a meeting with President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi of the Republic of Yemen.  Lastly, he held a reception for the 50th Anniversary of the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under the Law at 5:55 PM.

  • President Obama met with the House Democratic Caucus at 10:10 AM. After, he met with the Senate Democratic Caucus (11:25 AM). He then welcomed the 2013 NCAA Women's Basketball Champion UConn Huskies to the White House at 2:10 PM. He finished the day with a 4:30 meeting with Jack Lew.

A Fourth of July BBQ & Concert, Golfing, and a Ramadan Statement keep Obama Happy

After returning from a luxurious week in Africa, President Obama and family arrived back at the White House in time for their 4th of July bash. The day was filled with barbeque fun, television stars, and featured a concert by the band Fun.  In the evening, the President delivered a magnificent fireworks show to both the invited guests, and the residents of Washington DC.

On Friday, he took his family to Camp David for the weekend. While the family's schedule was private, Mr. Obama enjoyed a few rounds of golf with his close friends.

Unfortunately, a portion of his time was interrupted by conduction official business due to the administration's surveillance of foreign governments and the Egyptian overthrow of President Morsi.

Now that he is finished vacationing, Mr. Obama began working again. During the first 2 days of the week, he received two daily briefings, held a Cabinet Meeting, and meetings with Secretaries Lew and Hagel, and the Congressional Black Caucus. The President also delivered a few statements to the public, the most important of which as about the month long "Occasion of Ramadan".

He also announced: his nomination of various individuals for Administration Posts; and who he will send to attend the Inauguration Ceremony of the President of Mongolia.

DNC fundrasing event in Dallas & White House Correspondent's Association Dinner the focus of Obama's energies

There was not much work for President Obama last week. During that time, he received only 2 daily briefings, met with  Secretary of Defense Hagel, King Abdullah II of Jordan, Secretary of Treasury Jack Lew, and U.S. business leaders with a significant presence in Mexico and Central America. He also had lunch with VP Biden, and made a few announcements.

But, he did deliver remarks to Planned Parenthood, the National Academy of Sciences, and attended a DNC fundraising event in Dallas TX. In order to justify the taxpayer expense for this DNC event, he attended the opening of the Bush Library and spoke at the Baylor University memorial service for those killed in the West, TX explosion.


The highlight for the President was his attendance and speaking engagement at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.

  • Mr. Biden hosted a breakfast for John Kerry. Later, he will join Mr. Obama in making an employment announcement. Shortly, after, the two will have lunch together. In the afternoon, he also meets with Chuck Hagel. However, in the evening, he will attend a event for his son, Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden.

Bush Presidential Center Dedication Ceremony at 11:00 AM.  Then, at 3:00 PM, he delivered remarks at the memorial service at Baylor University. The two then left Dallas and flew back to Washington DC on Air Force One.
  • VP Biden met with His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan at 8:30 AM. In the afternoon, he met with gun safety advocates.

18 More Fundraising Campaign Events for President Obama, wife Michelle, and VP Biden

Of the past 7 days, President Obama had remained in Washington DC for official duties only once. That was last Wednesday. He began the day at 10:30 AM meeting with Tom Vilsack.  After a lunch with VP Biden, Mr. Obama also met with Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Panetta. The official highlight was his honoring of the 2012 NCAA Women’s Basketball Champion Baylor Bears at the White House. He ended that day attending a campaign fundraising event in Washington.

During the remaining 6 days, he attended 13 more fundraisers in the states of Florida, Nevada, California, and Oregon. Because of the tragic shooting in Colorado, the President found the opportunity to have the taxpayers pay for his West Coast swing by stopping in Colorado and meeting with families of the shooting victims.

Covering the other parts of the country, his wife Michelle campaigned in Pennsylvania, Alabama, and Ohio. Additionally, Mr. Biden worked a union crowd in Ohio.

All together, this trio attended a total of 18 campaign events in the week.

  • Michelle Obama attends a campaign event at Westerville Central High School in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio. Later, she will attend a second fundraising event in Dayton OH.

  • Mr. Obama started the day at 2:25PM when he flew from San Francisco CA to Reno NV where he spoke to the VFW National Convention. Next, he flew to Oakland CA and attended 3 more fundraising campaign events.

  • Mr. Obama's schedule began at 2:15PM when he left DC and flew to Colorado to meet with families of the shooting victims. Afterward, he flew to San Francisco and spent the night there.

Is the country running on auto-pilot now?

Note: we modified this post to reflect the President's surprise visit  to Afghanistan.

During the past week, President Obama spent less than 6 3 hours attending to Official U.S. business and an additional 3 hours addressing international affairs. Much of the time, he has traveled the U.S. delivering campaign speeches disguised at legislative proposals and working on things that he has chosen to not publicly disclose.

We do know that he held 3 2 daily briefings, and met with Senior advisers, Panetta and Geithner once each. He met with Prime Minister Noda of Japan, students, and military personnel. He spoke at an AFL-CIO event and received their endorsement, and he hosted the White House Correspondents' Association dinner.

In addition, the President attended 3 fundraisers. But, this was eclipsed by the 8 campaign events that his wife attended and the 5 that VP Biden attended. All together, the group was featured in 16 different campaign events located in various parts of the country.

  • President Obama spoke at at the  AFL-CIO Building and Construction Trades Department Legislative Conference who today (May 1st) announced their endorsement of Obama for re-election. Afterwards, he held a meeting, lunch, and a press conference with Prime Minister Noda of Japan. In the middle of the afternoon, he met with Geithner.
  • Mrs. Obama spoke to Obama campaign volunteers and supporters in Colorado Springs Colorado. Next, she traveled to Albuquerque NM and was greeted by service members. She then delivered remarks at a fundraiser, and spoke at the opening  Ceremony for the 2012 Warrior Games. Lastly, she flew to Tucson NM and was greeted by youth volunteers at Tucson Village Farm before attending a campaign event in Tucson.
  • VP Biden attended a campaign event in Kansas City, Missouri. Then, he flew to Munster, Indiana to attend another fundraiser.
  • Jill Biden and U.S. Department of Labor Assistant Secretary Jane Oates accompanied the VP. They visited Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City and later Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana.

10 Campaign Fundraisers are the focus of President Obama, VP Biden, and Mrs. Obama the week after the State of the Union 2012

After the State of the Union was delivered last Tuesday, the President, Vice President, and First Lady took to the skies, blitzing the country in 3 different directions.

Mr. Obama went to the middle and western part of the country, hitting Iowa, Arizona, Colorado and Michigan.

VP Biden took the northeast, fundraising in New Hampshire, New York City. This week he relocated to the south west Texas.

Mrs. Obama covered the south and far west. First, it was off to Florida last week. This week, she's covering California, appearing on television and fundraising as well.

Aside from pushing his new State of the Union theme, it is difficult to see any governing or leadership duties being performed by this wandering trio.
