White House Dinners and Receptions Highlight Obama's Work Week

The big thing for President Obama this week was hosting dinners, receptions, and greeting important folks at the White House.  For dinners, he first entertained Democratic senators last Wednesday, and today we are feeding bipartisan women senators.  The President also welcomed the National Teacher of the Year, hosted the White House Science Fair, Wounded Warriors and hosted a reception for Greek Independence Day.


In addition to this hard work, he received 4 daily briefings, met with his senior advisers twice, Jack Lew once, and the Amir of Qatar.

Mr. Obama and Michelle escaped Washington one day by flying to Boston to attend an Interfaith Ceremony for the slain victims of the Boston bombings.


Weekly Air Force One and Helicopter flying time:
  • VP Biden and wife : Washington DC to New York City (round trip) : 3 hours
  • VP Biden: Washington DC to Detroit MI (round trip) : 3 hours
  • Mr. Obama & wife : White House to Boston MA ( round trip ) : 3 hours

Today, Tuesday, April 23, 2013
  • President Obama started the day with a 10:15 AM daily briefing. Then at 11 AM, he met with his senior advisers. At 2:15 PM, he will honor the 2013 National Teacher of the Year. One half hour later, he will meet with the Amir of Qatar. The President will end the day by hosting a dinner with a bipartisan group of women Senators.
  • VP Biden meets with the Amir of Qatar.  In the evening, Joe and Jill Biden will travel to New York City and deliver remarks at the TIME 100 dinner at Lincoln Center.

Monday, April 22, 2013
  • Mr. Obama received a daily briefing at 10:45 AM. He later viewed science fair projects at 1:35 PM. and then spoke at the White House Science Fair at 2:25 PM. Lastly, he observed a moment of silence honoring the victims of the Boston marathon bombings at 2:30 PM. He also called the Boston Police Commissioner and FBI agent-in-charge of the Boston bombings.
  • Jill Biden hosted a reception honoring the 2013 National Teacher of the Year and State Teachers of the Year.

  • Michelle Obama went out to dinner with friends at the Cork Wine Bar in DC.

Saturday, April 20, 2013
  • VP Joe Biden flew to Detroit MI and delivered keynote remarks at the Michigan Democratic Party’s 2013 Jefferson-Jackson Dinner.

Friday, April 19, 2013
  • President Obama received a daily briefing at 10:30 AM. Afterward, he met with his senior advisors at 11:15 PM.
Thursday, April 18, 2013
  • Along with his wife Michelle, President Obama left the White House at 8:20 AM and flew to Boston MA. There, they attended and spoke at an Interfaith Service. They left Boston at 2:55 PM and flew back to DC. At 5:30 PM, Mr. Obama hosted a reception for Greek Independence Day.
  • Mr. Biden hosted a breakfast with Secretary of Defense Hagel.
Wednesday, April 17, 2013
  • President Obama received the daily briefing at 10 AM. At noon, he met with Jack Lew. Four hours later, he welcomed the Wounded Warrior Project’s Soldier Ride to the White House. Then, he delivered remarks on gun violence at 5:30 PM. Finally, he ended the day with a White House dinner for Democratic Senators.
